Dossiers : Triennial contract - english version

Mise à jour : 12 juin 2023

The “Strasbourg European Capital” triennial contract is a commitment that has been renewed for more than 40 years between the French state and regional authorities, the City and Eurométropole of Strasbourg (EMS), the European Collectivity of Alsace (CEA) and the Grand Est Region to fund operations that encourage and amplify the functions of the European capital as taken on by Strasbourg, the home of the European institutions including the European Parliament, the Council of Europe and the European Court of Human Rights.

Considering the fact that the triennial contract for 2021-2023 covers the period during which France will hold the presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first quarter of 2022, and the 70th anniversary of the European Parliament, the state and regional authorities have decided to focus on highly structuring projects to give it a highly strategic nature.

The implementation of these priorities is ensured by “Mission Strasbourg, European Capital”. A permanent structure created with the triennial contract 2021-2023, it is made up of five agents representing the various signatories.

The mission is the confluence of all regional actors working with the support funds and, beyond that, promoting Strasbourg’s European dimension. It contributes to reasserting Strasbourg’s status as European capital by informing, promoting and supporting these actors, encouraging the emergence of innovative initiatives and drawing up strategies for the future.
